COVID-19 and LGISC Meetings

LGISC Membership and interested parties:

We have been monitoring the ongoing actions of the state government with regard to the COVID-19 virus. Today, the Governor issued a proclamation (No. JBE 2020-27) in which, among other things, he asked the Louisiana Legislature to “consider a suspension resolution which would allow for the suspension of any legal requirements to ensure the continued operation of state and local government, including such issues as legal deadlines and quorum requirements for open meetings.” At this time, the LGISC is subject to the quorum requirements of the Louisiana Open Meetings Law in order to conduct business. We will evaluate the ability of the members to meet at the regularly-scheduled meeting time of March 19, 2020, at 1:30 P.M., in Baton Rouge over the coming days. If a quorum cannot be reached and if the Legislature has not been able to make exceptions to the mandate that a quorum must be present in person for boards and commissions to conduct business, then we will cancel the March meeting. No such decision to cancel has been made at this time.
